We’re looking for a confident, driven and personable Business Development Executive to join a growing commercial insurance team in Winchester.

This is a genuine new business role, with plenty of opportunity to build your own pipeline, develop relationships and win new clients. You’ll have the freedom to prospect and generate opportunities yourself, alongside warm leads, referrals and inbound enquiries, giving you a great mix of business development opportunities to work with.

And importantly, you won’t be doing it alone. You’ll be supported by an experienced commercial team, with Account Managers, Account Handlers and senior broking colleagues on hand to help turn new business wins into long-term client relationships.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll take ownership of the new business journey, from identifying prospective clients through to winning their business.

Your day-to-day will include:

• Identifying and developing new commercial insurance opportunities through outbound calling, networking, referrals and inbound enquiries.
• Building and managing your own pipeline, keeping CRM records and forecasts up to date.
• Speaking with business owners and decision-makers to understand their business, risks and insurance requirements.
• Working with a broad panel of insurers to source competitive and appropriate cover.
• Preparing and presenting tailored insurance proposals across areas including business insurance, property owners, motor fleet, motor trade, cyber, professional indemnity and contractors.
• Building strong relationships with prospects, confidently handling objections and helping clients make informed decisions.
• Working towards agreed individual and team new business targets.
• Ensuring a smooth handover to the Account Management team once business is won.
• Developing relationships with clients and introducers that lead to repeat business, referrals and long-term opportunities.
• Keeping up to date with insurance products, market developments and relevant FCA requirements.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who enjoys winning business and building relationships.

You might already be working in commercial insurance, financial services, sales or business development and be ready for your next step. Insurance broking experience would be a strong advantage, but we’re also interested in people with the right sales mindset and a genuine interest in developing their insurance career.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Previous experience in new business, sales or business development.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly.
• The confidence to speak with business owners and decision-makers.
• A resilient, self-motivated approach and the drive to achieve targets.
• Excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage and consistently follow up your own pipeline.
• The ability to explain more technical information clearly and confidently.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a close-knit team.
• A genuine interest in commercial insurance and a willingness to work towards Cert CII.
• A full UK driving licence, as there will be occasions where you’ll visit clients and prospects across Hampshire and Dorset.
